Collaboration with Kier to build awareness of invasive species during Safety, Health and Environment Week
Published on 10 Oct 2022

Collaboration is a huge part of how we work with our clients and supply chain. So when Kier invited Chevron Green Consultancy to take part in their Safety, Health and Environment Week we jumped at the chance.

Over the course of two weeks, Kier hosts a range of informative stands at two of their depots for their staff and supply chain to learn more about a range of topics. On the stand over the two weeks were Consultancy Director Martin Osman with Katy Jarret from Kier.

The Kier Environmental team and Chevron Green Consultancy are focusing on providing education around invasive species vs native species and discussion about animal lairs, dens and resting places, using games to bring this to life for the attendees. On our stall we have two games, one called Intruder Alert and one called Guess the Nest.

Intruder Alert features photos of invasive and native species which people can shoot at to knock over and then discuss the implications of that species. We’re featuring: the Red and Grey Squirrel; American Signal Crayfish and White-clawed Crayfish; Mink and Otter; Muntjac and Roe Deer; Giant Hogweed and Cow Parsley; and Asian Hornet and Honey Bee.

Guess the Nest shows nests and den entrances. Visitors to the stall are asked to choose what the den or nest looks like for a specific species. We have badger sett, fox den, dormouse nest, rabbit burrow, bird nest, otter holt, water vole burrow and bat roost. Each hole has something relevant to a particular species in it, prompting discussion around identification and importance.

And in true Chevron Green Services and Chevron Green Consultancy fashion it is a complete collaboration in getting the stand games built. The games have been built by Adam and Ryan from the Chevron Green Services team in Curdridge. Photos of native and invasive species and dens are provided by Kier. Information on the species are provided by the Chevron Green Consultancy environmental team – Ruth, Sophie, Andrea and Amanda. And the easels for the photos were handmade by Martin and his children.

Due to their success, more games and events are planned for 2023!
